Quoted from the article:
"Seated quietly in her Girl Scouts uniform, Valerie Martinez explained her passion for reading and how she used that passion to start a program at Long Elementary School to inspire students to get lost in a book.
As part of her Bronze Award project for the Girl Scouts, Martinez, a fifth-grade student, held a used book drive at her North Harlingen elementary school for the Harlingen Public Library.
...As part of her project, Martinez also read to Long Elementary students in the after-school program, she said.
She read “Hank the Cowdog” to the group of pre-kindergarten and first grade students.
“They were excited,” Martinez said. “It made me feel good to read to them and to get them excited.” "
