Labradors Voted America's Favorite Dog 21st Year in a Row
Wednesday, February 29, 2012
Well, Hank must be right, Labradors really are America's favorite dog!
Last week, the American Kennel Club came out with its yearly rankings based on registration statistics, and, for the 21st year in a row, Labrador Retrievers came in at first place.
Also of interest: Beagles rose to #3 (Wouldn't Miss Scamper be flattered?) and Bird Dogs rose several places (unexplainable).
Other popular dogs in the top 10: German Shepherd; Golden Retriever; Yorkshire Terrier; Bulldog; Boxer; Poodle; Dachshund and Rottweiler.
And, best of all: "The emergence of the big dog also signals a wane in popularity of some of the smaller breeds. Ten years ago, the likes of Chihuahuas, Pekingese and miniature pinschers dotted the upper reaches of the AKC most popular breeds list, but all have declined in popularity in recent years."
Does this mean cowdogs are on their way to the recognition they so richly deserve? Let's hope so . . .
